THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS PARISH ROSARY CONFRATERNITY
The Purpose of the Rosary Confraternity
The primary purpose of the Rosary Confraternity is "to praise and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and to secure her patronage by the recitation of the Rosary for the mutual spiritual benefit of all members throughout the world."
FROM OUR PAST
Billy Pollina, Mary Molnar, Nellie Harrigan, and Marie Sikora approached Msgr. Alexander J. Fronczak, the founding Pastor of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, to form an English Rosary Society. Msgr. Fronczak agreed that an English Rosary Society should be formed. Since the Polish organization was called the Living Rosary Society, he proposed the name Rosary Confraternity be used.
The Confraternity was organized at its first meeting on May 7, 1944. The original ten members were: Mary Molnar, President; Billy Pollina; Nellie Harrigan; Christine Pollina; Marie Sikora; Anne Cahill; Alice Smith; Madeline Henniger; Bertha Krudys; and Sylvia Hudak. The members were officially invested into the Rosary Confraternity on Sunday, October 1, 1944. The Bake-Off Committee composed of: Bertha Krudys; Sylvia Hudak, Vera Swinarski, Frances Kologie, Violet Mihalik, and Alice Smith were responsible for the Confraternity's major fund raisers - their babka, rice cake, nut roll, and poppy seed roll bake sales.
For over 45 years, the Rosary Confraternity has served and supported the parishioners of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. We strive to demonstrate devotion to our Blessed Mother and in our Savior in every aspect of our service to our faith community, including but not limited to:
Monthly recitation of the rosary as a confraternity, offering our prayers for those who most need them within our parish family;
Participating in key parish spiritual events, such as 40 hours devotion, the May Crowning, Corpus Christi processions, commemoration of the Triduum;
Organizing an annual "Morning of Reflection" for the women of our parish;
Arranging spiritual pilgrimages to the National Shrine in Washington, DC, the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA and Sight & Sound Theatres in Lancaster, PA;
Providing opportunities for social gatherings of parishioners, friends and family via trips, Tricky Trays and serving refreshments following parish events;
Awarding bonds to graduating students of MSH elementary school each year;
Supporting the MSH capital campaign and parish restoration fund;
Funding the purchase of liturgical vestments and supplies as requested;
Working at our annual parish picnic;
Fund raising activities, such as our cookbook, "Sweet Sunday" and the "Super 50/50" drawing.
